Why should I drink filtered Tapp Water instead of bottled water?Public water in the Caribbean is generally speaking subject to regular and rigorous controls and meets all the standards, but many people do not like the taste, or truly trust the safety of their water. Filtered tap water is safe and healthy to drink and also much cheaper than bottled water. TAPP water filters additionally remove any contaminants as well as chlorine which is often the origin of poor tasting water. Filtered tap water is much more environmentally friendly than bottled water. Consider the CO2 footprint of bottled water production, transportation and distribution. And last but not least, using a TAPP water filter is more convenient, as you can stop carrying heavy water bottles from the store home. Many other filtration systems or bottled water processes remove the good minerals such as magnesium and calcium along with the bad. Tapp Water ensures it keeps the good minerals.

What are the Tapp Water products made of?TAPP refill cartridges are made from coconut shells and absorbs chemicals, gases, metals and organic elements thanks to its microscopic structure and highly porous surface. The materials we use in our filters reflect our commitment to sustainability, quality and durability. The cartridge housing is made of ABS and PC plastic, which is free of BPA and phthalates and is manufactured from natural raw materials. The carbon block found inside the cartridge housing and which filters your water is made of coconut shells (70%) — which biodegrade in CO2 and water — and UHMW (30%) — which is inert and stable and doesn’t accumulate in marine life. Our product also contains two small silicone parts that hold the carbon block in place to ensure maximum filter efficiency. These parts decompose in amorphous silica, carbon dioxide and water. We continue to innovate and are committed to creating a 100% biodegradable filter – as biodegradable is always better than relying on recycling. Better for the planet, better for our children and better for ourselves. We know we are on the right path by having created a better solution available right now compared to what existed before.

Why do I have to change my filter cartridges? The quality of your water and the efficiency of the filter’s filtration capacity can only be guaranteed for a usage capacity equivalent to the product. The EcoPro compact is 1 month or 300L, EcoPro and Pitcher Pro are months or 1200L and 600L respectively and the Ultra is 6 months or 2500L. Our quality parameters for filtering substances and contaminants are above 95% in most cases (depending on the type of contaminant it is higher, for instance, with chlorine filtration efficiency is at 99%). The filtration of contaminants such as pesticides and herbicides, VOCs, and microplastics do not meet our quality parameters after the specified months or liters of usage. If you use your cartridge beyond our recommendations, filtration efficiency will decay below our minimum standards. Keep in mind that carbon is an organically based material that provides a breeding ground for microorganisms on which bacteria can multiply over time. These bacteria build up behind the filter and contaminate the water in the pipe system. This is normal for all activated carbon filters, regardless of whether you live alone or with many people, or if the filter hasn’t been used for some time. A quick reminder in case you don’t use the filter for a couple of days: flush for 30 seconds before consumption to avoid bacteria intake. Our filter cartridges are highly effective at absorbing the smallest substances, contaminants, and particles (1-2 microns) Based on your needs you can calculate the amount of water per day and it could enable you to use your filtered tap water not only for direct consumption but also for cooking, preparing hot beverages, your beloved pets and even watering your indoor plants.
-
How do I make sure I maintain quality water – clean and great tasting? When you maintain your filter properly and change the cartridge at the recommended times, the taste and cleanliness of your water will be maintained. And last but not least, a quick reminder in case you don’t use the filter for a couple of days: flush for 30 seconds before consumption to avoid bacteria intake!
-
How do I know when to replace my cartridges? You can register your product in the MyTapp app if you like(Apple or Android compatibility) or you can email us at chris@espowater.com and we will notify you need to purchase your refill cartridges.
-
The water pressure has dropped when I turn on my filtered water? If you are finding that the water pressure is significantly lower when passing through the filter it can be one of several issues: If you are continuing to use an old filter, your filter should be changed as it is clogged with filtered contaminants. If you changed your filter and then noticed a drop in pressure please check that you have placed the filter refill in correctly. In the case of the EcoPro please also check that the silicone seal inside the casing that sits between the filter refill and the casing is present. In the case of the EcoPro Compact please ensure that you have removed the paper protective covers from the filter refill. If you have checked all these items and still experience difficulty please contact us at chris@espowater.com

Is it safe to drink tap water or should I continue to buy bottled water? In most regions of the Caribbean we have very good tap water, but some pollutants (microplastics, hormone and residues, pesticides, herbicides, nitrates, etc.) can be contained in the water. It can also be a long way that the water needs to travel from the government water source. Pipes inside your home or community are not visible, can be outdated and contain heavy metals. The high chlorination can also give your water a poor taste. For these reasons and the mindset that bottled water is healthier causes many people to buy countless plastic bottles of water. It is expensive, can be heavy on your back, a much higher carbon footprint and bottled water isn’t better for you. Because with the high-quality and sustainable water filters from TAPP Water, safe, great tasting and inexpensive tap water is always available to you. No more lugging heavy bottles from the store.

What contaminants do the Tapp Water products eliminate?Based on tests and research, the TAPP Water water filters remove over 100 pollutants from tap water with their 5-stage activated carbon microfiltration technology and reduce more than 30 other substances such as limescale.
-
How does the activated carbon filter work? The TAPP Water activated carbon filters remove over 100 substances such as impurities and pollutants as well as unpleasant odors and tastes from tap water with a proprietary 5-stage microfiltration technology, while important minerals such as calcium, potassium and magnesium are retained. The filter surface is covered with micropores that let the water through but retain the impurities. Activated charcoal is derived from coconut shells and is therefore 100% natural and sustainable. The activated carbon microfiltration technology developed by TAPP Water works in 5 stages: Stage 1: polypropylene mesh This fine mesh wraps around the carbon block, filtering out larger microorganisms, sediment, rust, scale particles and other contaminants. It also protects the carbon block from contamination from human hands when changing the filter. Stage 2: adsorption by activated carbon Coconut shell activated carbon removes organic chemical matter, chlorine, chlorine by-products (VOC, THM, HAAS etc.), taste, odor, hormone and drug residues, pesticides, herbicides, nitrate, nitrites, PFAS etc. It also filters heavy metals such as lead , copper, mercury and more. Stage 3: Carbon Block Microfiltration The carbon block filters particles larger than 1 to 2 microns. This prevents microplastics, fine dust and most bacteria from passing through the filter. It also prevents corrosion particles and bacteria that build up in the pipes from seeping out. Level 4: Reduction of lime and heavy metals We are very proud of our proprietary limescale inhibitor formula which is the result of years of research. It is located directly in the carbon block and prevents the formation of limescale and retains the remaining heavy metals. Stage 5: Sieve The screen finally filters out hair, sand, dirt and other contaminants that may be present in the building's pipes.

How do I dispose of the filters? The cartridges are made of recyclable plastic free BPA. The activated carbon block or cartridge should be disposed of in the waste at the end of their life cycle. Some of our products contain a housing or casing for the filter and this can be reused time after time with a carbon filter as often as you wish. If your housing/casing should break you can place this in recycling if available in your location.
